Mr. David Hutson BA (Hons) MSc NPQH

I am committed to creating a school learning environment whereby students have an excellent holistic educational experience, in achieving their academic goals, and developing personal attributes and competencies needed for working life and further study. My passion for students, their learning, and their educational experience is always at the centre of strategic planning and decision making. I have had the pleasure of living in Abu Dhabi and working at Al Bateen Academy since September 2011.

Ms. Rachel Smyth

Mr. Peter Atkins

My role as Head of Senior School at Al Bateen is to oversee both the pastoral and academic well-being of the senior school students. A key goal is to ensure that our AS & IB students at Al Bateen are successful whilst here, alongside developing the skills and competencies needed to succeed in life after senior school, whether it be further study at university or future employment. I have previously worked at international schools in both the UK and Italy, teaching economics on the IB Diploma Programme as well as holding the post of IB DP Coordinator as part of the school leadership team. I completed my Masters degree in International Education at the University of Bath, following which I am now working towards completing a Doctorate in Education. I have an interest in exploring collaborative working practices to aid student outcomes. Al Bateen Academy is an international community of staff, students and parents that both appreciate diversity whilst at the same time are sensitive to cultural values, these attributes help to shape our students into well informed global citizens, something I am very proud to now be part of. I look forward to working closely with the senior school students this year to help motivate them to be the best they can possible be and encourage them to take advantage of the wide range of opportunities.

Mr. John Gardner

I am focused on facilitating the continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices, with the aim to ensure the delivery of high quality education across the curriculum. My role is to support teachers in developing strategies to enable students’ to maximise their learning potential and develop the skills essential to becoming effective 21st century citizens. I have a particular interest in developing coaching and mentoring practices within the school, and I am currently undertaking a post-graduate programme of study relevant to this.

Mr. Richard McMahon

My main responsibilities are to ensure that Al Bateen Academy delivers an outstanding curriculum which meets the needs of our student population. The curriculum has to be broad and balanced, filled with rich purposeful learning experiences to develop well rounded students with a range of twenty first century learning skills. Other areas for which I am responsible include developing the school assessment processes and monitoring student achievement.
