Strategic Governance Group (SGG)

Al Bateen Academy’s Strategic Governance Group (SGG) is established to provide consultation and support in relation to strategic leadership of the school. The school, Aldar Academies and the SGG will work collaboratively, and in partnership, to develop a positive working relationship, for the benefit of all students, and in recognition that this partnership is pivotal to the success of Al Bateen Academy in achieving its School Aims.

The Parent/Community Governors are, as follows:

Dr. Hisham Farahat (Parent Governor)
An Egyptian Medical Doctor, who came to the UAE as a child in 1976,I  lived here until high school, then returned to Egypt, where I graduated from Cairo University. Later travelled to California for my Medical Licensing and Healthcare Management masters at UCLA. I finally came back to the UAE,  as the Business Development Manager at Al Masaood Healthcare. Currently I am the President of Al Safwa Group of Companies, which traces its origin back to 2006, when I as a father, driven by a personal desire for better quality of life for his son (Safwat), reached beyond the UAE in search for means to mobilise and make his disabled son independent. This led to the founding of “Al Safwa Mobility” in January 2007. Since then the company had grown into establishing Al Safwa Healthcare (a home nursing company) and Al Safwa Autoclinic (a workshop specialised in vehicle adaptation). Regretfully we lost my son Safwat at the age of 14 in September 2015, but his legacy will live and serve people for years to come. Safwat was lucky to be at Al Bateen, and so are my two daughters, Jana and Layal. Layal, who – thanks to the infrastructure laid by Al Bateen, has just started another challenge at the University of Sussex, where she received an unconditional offer and a scholarship, studying Media and Communication.

Mr. Joseph Fowler (Parent Governor)
I am a British and have worked for a satellite communications company in Abu Dhabi since 2009. Both of my children attend Al Bateen Academy. I am greatly looking forward to another year as a Parent Governor, helping to ensure our magnificent Al Bateen students feel encouraged, motivated, and supported in all of their efforts.

Mr. Peter Hellyer (Community Governor)
Originally British but now a UAE citizen, I came to Abu Dhabi in 1975. Head of the English Service of the Emirates News Agency, WAM, I have also published books on the country’s archaeology and environment. I was awarded the Abu Dhabi Medal in 2014. As Governor and parent, I hope to contribute to development of the school’s excellence in all fields.

Dr Monique Taylor (Parent Governor)
I am the Campus Dean and Executive Director of NYIT-Abu Dhabi, the local campus of a US-based university. Over the past 15 years I have lived and worked in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia where I was most recently an elected board member at the Nanjing International School in China. I have a daughter at Al Bateen Academy. My family and I are excited to be in Abu Dhabi and appreciate the academically rigorous and welcoming environment of Al Bateen. As a parent governor, I look forward to supporting the school in its next strategic initiatives.
