I have always had a passion for theatre, that feeling of being completely captivated, the emotional journey you are taken on and the various questions and thoughts you are left with. Having grown up in London, I have been fortunate to experience a range of theatre and to be taught by an inspirational drama teacher. Therefore, I knew early on that I wanted to share my love and enthusiasm for the subject by inspiring and educating students.

I completed my Drama & Education degree at St Mary’s College, in London and then went on to complete my post graduate degree in Drama at Goldsmiths University. After teaching for six years, I realized the importance of becoming a reflective practitioner and completed a master’s in education. This inspired me to want to continue to explore new challenges and learn from new experiences, which is when I decided to move to the UAE.

Teaching at Al Bateen over the last four years has enabled me to share my knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for the subject of drama, it has also allowed me to develop an understanding of the heritage, traditions and cultures of the UAE. Working in an international school has also given me the opportunity to learn about students experiences from around the world; which I strive to embed within my own classroom as well as drama curriculum.

The Drama Department at Al Bateen enables students to not only develop their talents and skills within drama but also to develop their collaborative skills, build self-confidence and learn how to become independent learners. Our Whole-School Productions build a sense of community across Al Bateen, with various students, staff and parents supporting the shows. As a department we also strive to offer students opportunities that will continue to enhance their skills and talents, through acting accreditations from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and in seeing various theatre productions across Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It is about providing memories for our students that they will treasure and in enabling them to build lifelong skills that will take them on a path towards excellence. As a head of department and drama teacher, I will continue to share my passion and offer students new and exciting experiences within the classroom and the wider community.
